Upcoming MMA Fights

Hey guys,

The fighters that Kru Marc and Chappy have been training at the gym have some fights coming up:

Chase Hackett - fighting in Omaha, NE 2/5/2010 for a championship belt
Nick Macias - fighting at DU (Magnus arena), defending his belt, 2/26/2010
Tony Miller - fighting on the same card - Tickets are available for this event
Greg Juarez - fighting at the Stampede, 2/19/2010 in his first amateur Muay Thai fight

If you can make it to the fight at DU, get some tickets and support them. Otherwise, if you see them in the gym beforehand, wish them luck. Even though they have only been training here for brief time, it has been my experience that they are all "stand-up" guys. It's always good to know you are supported so anything you do is appreciated!

Tournament Results

Hey all,

Everyone did great at the tournament this weekend. Will post pics and stuff tomorrow.

Zack swept his gi and no gi division finishing everyone. Duncan took second with the fastest finish of the day - a sub 10 second arm bar. Marcello won his no gi division and took second in the gi. John lost both of his fights but fought very well. He had his opponents arm in each match but the finish eluded him. Kyle fought a great fight too and was up on points when he got his arm popped. That was a rough first tournament experience and I feel very badly about that. I know he will come back stronger than every though.

Also, Brenden took second competing for McMahon BJJ under Professors Finnie and Tessa McMahon. 2 submissions and one loss by submission.

Everyone won gracefully and lost gracefully. We could not be more proud of you guys!

Thursday 1/21 Muay Thai Class Cancelled

Apologies for the last minute notice - Kru Marc has to leave town on an emergency business trip. Very often we can get the class covered but not this time. Saturday 9-10:30 class is on as usual.

BJJ Class Cancelled Saturday 1/23 for tournament

Please come down and support the team competing in the Fight to Win tournament on Saturday 1/23 starting at 9AM:

10:30 AM BJJ class will be canceled. There may be some open mat time - stay tuned. Judo is on at 11:30.

It makes a big difference to have you friends around, cheering for you and supporting you. So if you can make it, please come!

Competition Re-post

The next competition is coming up January 23rd. Tournament is also linked on the right hand side of the blog. We will have two competition team meetings in January:

Saturday 12/9 - 12:30-2
Friday 12/15 - 5-6:30

These training sessions are open to everyone. If you just want to come and get some hard training and help out your team, or if you want to check out how competitions work, this is the time to do it. Those of you planning on competing need to come to both meetings!

Also, please welcome James McNally to BJJ and Muay Thai and Drew Anderson to BJJ when you guys see them!

Schedule Changes

FYI, the intermediate Muay Thai class on Monday at 7:30 has been changed to an Open Class (open to all levels). Also, the BJJ Open mat times are now Tuesday & Thursday 1:30-2:30, Wednesday 7:30-8:30 and Saturday 12:30-2. Once you have your second stripe, make sure you are getting to open mat and getting some good training in!
