Kyle has joined the team in a big way. Not only is he running some of the CrossFit classes, but he and I will be sharing the duties of running the gym from head to toe. In very short order, anything you may have needed to speak with me about Kyle will be able to help you with as well. This is a huge step for us as a gym and long overdue. We are excited to be able to provide a level of service to the clients that previously we could not simply because it was too much for one person to do and the systems were not in place. The gym is definitely undergoing a process of renewal in the New Year so watch for some exciting changes!
Also, please help Kyle rise to the challenge. He has been with us for some time now and is a huge asset to our team. It's a ton of work to take on and it represents a significant change to go from everyone's best friend and training partner to a person who shares the responsibility, failures and successes of running a gym. Please make sure you give him your respect and support in his new endeavors.

Privates - take your game to the next level...
If you guys are hitting a plateau or just want some help taking your game to the next level I highly suggest getting a private with Coach Andres. During the hour, you can go over in detail any aspect of grappling that you choose from escapes, to omoplata variations, to takedowns. Privates are an awesome way to jumpstart your perception of the game and your technical progress.
A 1 hour private with Coach Andres is $50. Your business is appreciated and it's a big help in allowing Coach to make his way doing what he loves!
Talk to Andres or Ian to set-up your first appointment.

Factory X Muay Thai/MMA Expansion
So we have signed the lease on the next space over and Marc and the crew are beginning work. This space will be designated exclusively for Muay Thai & MMA. We will have 1000 sq. ft. of mat, padded walls, a 1/2 cage and a Performance MMA Pro Shop courtesy of Troy and Kelly. It should be awesome.
A new MMA program is in the works as well. This will be for regular folks who would just like to learn some MMA techniques & get a great workout in but don't necessarily want to do any hard sparring etc.
We will also be starting a Muay Thai class for little ones on Saturday, 5 yo-11 yo.
Watch for a Grand Opening/MMA Seminar with Chris Camozzi around the 1st of next month as well.
Also, FYI, there is a new Wednesday Open Muay Thai Class from 7:30-9:00.

So that we can continue to bring you guys the best facility, training and schedule around we can really use your help bringing new members in. Remember that every time someone you referred signs up we owe you a $25 credit. We appreciate your help and we hope you enjoy the new addition!

Congratulations Nick!
Just wanted to congratulate Nick Macias and the whole team on his victory by TKO Saturday night. Marc reported to me that early on, Nick got in a bit of a tight spot but kept his composure, escaped, and went on to win by referee stoppage. We're all super proud of you Nick!
Here is a brief description:
"Nick Macias vs. Prentice Ingram. Both fighters landed early strikes before Ingram got a belly to back suplex and tried to sink a RNC. Macias defended the choke and turned in to work GNP before looking to set in an RNC of his own. Ingram received a deep cut from an elbow thrown by Macias and the blood aided Ingram in escaping from the choke and he was able to take North/South position. To end the round Macias drove forward from his knees for a takedown while Ingram tried for a guillotine as the bell sounded. Between rounds it was determined that the cut was deep enough to keep the fight from continuing and Macias got the TKO win at 5:00 of round one."
More on the event can be found here.

From one of our clients...
"I am excited to continue my Muay Thai training. There is something I'd love to share w/ you: I walked to my car last night and couldn't find my phone or wallet. I had looked in the bins, my pockets and in my car. I was on my way inside to say I was missing it. When I got inside, it was sitting out in the open on top of the benches (w/ bins bellow). My iPhone, wallet (full of cash and cards) had sat there for over 1.5 hr and hadn't been taken or messed with. That says a lot about the folks there. Thought you'd like to hear it. I'm excited to continue w/ Marc."
I just thought this was awesome to hear...

Announcements...
1.) Don't forget to come over to Ian's Saturday afternoon for the staff & client appreciation barbq! My address is on the events board by the door. We will be getting the fights and going into the evening. Please bring something to grill/share. This is a chance for us all to get together and cut loose a little bit. See you there!
2.) The blue belt demos for Duncan and Zack scheduled for 9/4 need to be re-scheduled. Standby for the new time. Apologies for the short notice.
3.) Please do your best to be on time for class. We have had a few of our own infractions lately and I am aware of that. We will strive to start on schedule. 5 minutes late is one thing. Sometimes we start a few minutes past the 1/2 hour or hour so I understand that. 10-15 minutes late is a different story. The instructor may choose to invite you onto the mat in this instance but that is at their discretion. So please do your best and we will too!

Congratulations Coach!
I just wanted to take the time to wish Coach Andres congratulations on his recent promotion to purple belt. This past weekend he received his belt from Dean Sensei in Bend, OR.
As many of you have experienced this was a long overdue promotion. I for one will be happy to stop getting tapped so often by a no stripe blue belt!
Awesome job coach. We are proud to have you as our training partner and instructor!

Parking
All,
If you could please refrain from parking along the south facing row against the clock business, the Chinese restaurant & the AllState office that would be very much appreciated. The business owners have been complaining and we'd like to stay in good standing in the complex.
The middle of area of the parking lot is fine since it is non-business specific.
Thanks for your help with this!

Congratulations!
I wanted to voice a big congratulations to Duncan and Alan for how well they did in the tourney this weekend. Duncan took 3rd in the no-gi division and second in the gi division. He actually won two matches no gi and narrowly missed a third on points. Alan won his gi division after winning his first match ever on points then besting Duncan in a pre-agreed victory.
Also, congratulations to Eric Moya who won his MMA fight that night in the second round by submission, triangle! Awesome job Eric, we look forward to seeing you develop and getting a bunch of W's under your belt.

New Class Schedule & Seminar Info.
Couple changes we wanted to make you guys aware of:
1.) Judo w/Grace Sensei is moving to Friday from 5:30-7PM instead of the Saturday 11:30 slot - effective this Friday 5/14. Come in and get some great stand-up training in!
2.) Kru Marc's Open Muay Thai class on Saturday will be extended by 1/2 hour so it will now run from 10:30-12 noon.
3.) Effective next Tuesday, 5/18 the intermediate class on Tuesday and Thursday will be No Gi classes. This will remain in effect until Professor Busy gets his own academy open (July) at which time we will revert back to what is reflected on the schedule (Monday/Wednesday No Gi). We know some of you have missed the no gi classes so we wanted to make sure we worked those back in for you!
4.) Professor Busy will teach another class every Friday at 7PM. Also, his Saturday class has been moved to 12 noon.
Lastly, regarding the BJJ seminar with Henry Akins at the end of this month: we have notified numerous academies and organizations in the area. We are expecting a big turnout. We want to make sure you guys are able to reserve your spots. If you are planning on attending, please get your name on the seminar list including which day(s) you are planning on attending and a 50% deposit. So if you are training both days that's a $75 deposit. 1 day of training would be $37.50. Thanks!

Performance MMA
Hey All-
Troy Barron and Kelly Brown recently started training with us and they happen to be the owners of Performance MMA. They have a fully stocked warehouse, pretty darn close to the gym, full of all the latest and greatest jiu-jitsu, mma and muay thai gear. I put a banner down on the right hand side of the blog that you can click on and go directly to their site to order. When you purchase through them you obviously help them out. I am a big fan of building local relationships and knowing where your money goes. It also helps out the gym when you access their site from ours.
So when you need something, you know where to go!
And thanks!

Your Kids at the Gym
Currently, it is no problem for your children to remain in the carpeted area of the gym or for them to be in the mat room. However, please read this cross post from the CrossFit site regarding the gym area of the academy, and thanks for taking the time to read over it:
We are always in the process of changing a lot of things at the gym (ultimately for the better we hope!). One of the things we are forced to deal with as we grow is the situation with children. I know some of you bring your kids when you train and we are happy that you are able to do that. In the future, we would like to have a full on kids room/day care center but it will be some time until that is possible. In the meantime we need to make some changes in order to keep the children as safe as possible while they are here, for the sake of liability and for the experience of the other clients that train here.
Here is the latest standard - once class starts (that's on the hour) all kids are to be off the black mat. They need to remain off the black mat until the close of class. Children may come on the black mat during off times under the direct supervision of their parents. However, they may no longer use the equipment. This means no hanging upside down on the rings, hanging from the pull-up bars, jumping on bumpers, moving KB's around etc. Parents please respect and enforce these rules with your own children so your trainer doesn't have to. Thank you. I know this is bummer for some of you but did we really want to wait for the first child to get a hand smashed under a heavy KB, or to fall head first upside down from the rings onto the mat? I don't think we did. So let's just address it now.
If you do want your little whippersnapper to do cool CrossFit stuff, you'll be thrilled to know that we are looking at implementing CF kids mid-Mayish. Tentatively we are looking to do this on M,W,F at 5PM (the same time as your class mom and dad!) Ages will range from 5 or 6 on up to 14 or 15. We are working on the pricing as well. We think this will be a great program and the value of having the kids class at the same time as the adults class is not lost on us.
Also, we are looking into hooking parents up with a couple of the older children of gym parents so that you can arrange with them to have your child taken care of here at the gym while you train. We'll keep you posted on this...

New Gi's In, Tournament, Potluck...
The new kimonos are in and they are pretty sweet. They are a one piece top now and a single type of weave - a little lighter than the old ones (good for summer!). We also have white. An extra gi is $100 and the black ones are $125 (we only have a handful of those). We have a few 6 & 7 sizes left in the first batch of gi's and those are on sale for $75/each.
If the loops have torn on your pants, take them to the cleaners just a few doors down and they will sew them for you for just a few dollars. They will sew patches and other stuff as well. The owner really appreciates any business we can send their way!
Also, we are having a potluck here at the academy on Saturday 4/24 starting at 12:30. Please bring something to eat or drink and feel free to bring your family and friends. You can train in Professor's class and then come and hang out or just show up at 12:30 ready to eat.
Also, the RMBJJF tournament is Saturday 4/17 at Arvada High School. If you are planning on competing you need to be at the next competition meeting which is Friday 4/9 at 5PM. If you're not competing but want to help your team get ready and get in some good training please come and help out (2 stripes and up).
